Insane old man Donald Rumsfeld is unemployed!!!

it's 70F, sunny and the fundamentalist nut jobs have lost their power...
I'm not sure how this could be a better Wednesday at this point.
maybe if Rummy, Cheney, Bush I/II were hanging with this guy?

Congratulations

Looks like the Dems took the House and the Senate (Virgina and Montana slightly outstanding). Missouri voted for science for a change despite endless deceptive adds by fundamentalist whack jobs. My faith in American democracy is restored, ever so slightly.

It‘s unfortunate we had to go so far down the rabbit hole to get here, so I‘ll say only this:

come on guys, don't f*ck this up...

Hey man, what's the fax number?

A coworker asked me today, "what is our fax #?".
the conversation went something like this:

him: "hey man, what's our fax number?"
me: "i don't know, it's written on the fax machine."
him: "you can't just tell me?"
me: "i don't know what it is off hand, if you're going to receive or send a fax chances are you're going to have to walk to the fax machine anyway."
him: "thanks for nothing."

granted the fax machine is a whopping 15 feet away from our cubes. FIFTEEN FEET.
what the bloody hell is wrong with people?

Time to overturn some cars and light things on fire....

Oh wait...Detroit lost. There will be no burning things down and destroying cars.

It's not often i get excited about trivial things like this, but sports tends to have the ability to bring people together. People who normally wouldn't agree with each other, having vastly different economic circumstances, religious or political views, social and racial differences. I look at a conversation I overheard last year at work between an affluent white sales executive and a black janitor about the weekends NFL games. It made me smile at the time and still does. That's why we need things like sports in our lives. For just a little while, the city of Saint Louis is ONE, a city of people together.

I feel like a little kid today. C just laughed at me as I bounced around in the living room last night.

Panic In Detroit

The 83-78 Saint Louis Cardinals are up 3 games to 1 in the worst rated World Series ever. It's been 24 years since we've seen the home team win it all.

Certainly nothing compared to 99 years for the suckers on the north side of Chicago, but those folks thrive on their misfortune. They wouldn't even know what to do if suddenly after a century they stopped sucking.

Really I hardly remember it happening when i was 8. I just remember 50000 people
storming the field and destroying it in an insane celebration. I doubt they have room for all those people in Gitmo if they win this one =) Go Cards, end the rain.

Frozen embryos are babies...blah blah jesus.

The fine state of Missery is having a vote on Nov. 7th for funding stem cell research.

There's an add running here for for support of this measure that features Parkinson's sufferer and actor Michael J. Fox who is shaking quite severely from his symptoms. Conservative talk show asshat and known prescription drug abuser Rush Limbaugh has the gall to state Mr. Fox is dramatizing the effects of his condition to drum up support for the initiative.

There's now another add that's appearing featuring insanely brainwashed Christian athletes with ties to the Missouri area. Former Ram: Kurt Warner, current Cardinal pitcher: Jeff Suppan and Kansas City Royal: Mike Sweeny.

They essentially state their opposition to scientific research. I suppose when you have god on your side and more money than you know what to do with, incurable illness really won‘t be an issue for you. He does after all help you hit home runs, throw curve balls and score touch downs. God loves his pro sports. After all we created him in our image and we love our pro sports. Certainly makes perfect sense.

I've yet to hear a valid argument on how using embryos, that would otherwise sit for eternity (or until we run out of power) frozen in a lab or be thrown away, is killing life. These never were life, they merely have the potential to be if someone chose to implant every damn one of them into a willing vagina. Come on Christian girls, open wide, put your sexual organs where your mouth is. Hey...that's hot!!!

If you believed in this sort of superstitious silliness, wouldn't all of these little unwanted souls be going to heaven once they were "destroyed"? Isn't that the end game for these nut jobs anyway? Get to heaven. Presuming you're not Catholic of course, then it's LIMBO!!!! Not the fun kind with the stick and drunk people falling down either. Just good olde fashioned god punishing unbaptized babies for eternity LIMBO.

People are dieing. People are suffering. This is nothing new, nor is the church impeding scientific progress because it may just prove their unfounded stance on "faith" wrong, or at the least quaint and delusional as it has throughout history.

We as a species are going to have to give up this delusional superstition or at least reign in the extremists, whatever brand of god™ they bought, before we can move forward.

Perhaps someday, probably not in any of our lifetimes, it'll be illegal to buy religion before you're 18, or 21. Other dangerous products are restricted to minors that aren't legally considered able to make good decisions. Why do have we have to persist with this generational brain washing of the population at large? You hook them when they're young with Santa Claus and forced visits to the denominational building not of their choice and then keep them coming back with with their money and their kids for god. Your buddy, your imaginary friend.

Additionally: Props to former Republican Senator and ordained minister John Danforth for coming out in favor of stem cell science and publicly scolding the far Christian right. If only the party he left behind had half his common sense or integrity.

Go Cards?!?!?#!@#!@$!

Somehow the STL Cardinals managed to make it to the World Series after only winning 83 regular season games. Heck of a job Mets, heck of a job. Hopefully sometime next week we'll all be listening to David Bowie's _Panic In Detroit_. GO CARDS!!!

Monday Strikes Back

Yesterday was my first day back working days again after a month on the vampire shift.

I suppose that should be a positive thing, not being on the vampire shift. It rained all day yesterday. It was raining when I woke up at 3am, it was raining when I went to bed at 10pm.

The road crews have been doing a bunch of work in the “office park” I frequent each day for money and time killing. They were nice enough to leave a deep trench across the road that when filled with concrete colored water and not marked by hazard signs or barrels amazingly looks JUST LIKE road. It looked so much like road I ran over it at 25mph and destroyed one of my front tires.

I had planned on replacing the tires this month, before winter hits, because the Continentals on the car have about zero wet traction, which makes rear wheel drive a whole pile of fun. Props to the previous owner for buying cheap ass tires. This leads to the reason I never got the spare tire patched when I discovered it was flat and wouldn‘t hold air for more than a couple of days a few months ago. Ahh procrastination.

Now I‘m stuck in a downpour with three good tires. A coworker helped me get the spare up to a tire shop for patching. They had it three hours and did nothing but put air in it and say “well it doesn‘t seem to leak”, when i show up at the agreed upon time. So I wait another hour for them to fix it properly, get a ride back to my car, mount the tire and suffer through 2 hours of traffic to defeat my 20 mile commute. I don‘t remember moving to one of the coasts recently.

I was so happy to wake up this morning and find that the spare had crapped out 15psi overnight. Thanks for fixing my tire you jackasses.

Damn glad it's Tuesday or something.

$700, 5 new tires and an alignment later: The Michelin Pilot Exaltos kick ass. The 328i is happy again.

obligatory: Go Cards!
